Authorities at all levels gathered in Mons to debate the challenges and solutions for the future of Europe
Everywhere people are facing multiple crises and challenges, and cities and regions are the first to deal with them and come up with solutions.
This is why, on 18-19 March, the European Committee of the Regions, the Belgian Presidency of the Council, and the Walloon Region called over 300 mayors and 3000 stakeholders in Mons to hear their vision for a more sustainable and resilient Europe.
EUCityCalc: the webtool developed to support the local green transition
Among the myriad challenges discussed, climate change emerged as a central theme, prompting a collective call to action from leaders. Being the first level affected by climate and energy-related issues, cities lead when it comes to finding effective solutions for decarbonisation.
Participants understood that the EU City Calculator can be a real asset in this effort. Indeed, several representatives of cities and regions expressed their interest in joining the learning programme and using the Calculator to simulate customised low-carbon scenarios. Processing cities’ data, the webtool can offer a tangible pathway for municipalities to embrace sustainability and make informed policy decisions.
